I enjoy tutoring because I can work individually with students. Tutoring one-to-one provides me an opportunity to explore specifically where a student may be excelling as well as where certain skills need to be strengthened. This serves as a way for us to develop a plan so that the student may get the help they need in a way that is most effective and efficient for them. My bachelor's degree is in English and I graduated from the University of Illinois. I also have a teaching license from Eureka College in math.I have tutored students primarily in science and math, but I have also provided assistance to them in other classes such as English. Most students I tutored were in high school, though I have also worked with some who were attending junior college. While I tutor in several subject areas, I like math the most since I enjoy seeing those I tutor master the different steps and then become enthusiastic to try new problems.At the outset of a tutoring relationship, I discuss with my students what they like most about a particular subject and what some of their strengths are. Then we can home in on any areas where they may need some skill building. This puts the relationship on a positive footing that we can always return to if we need to reinforce what they have accomplished. When I am not in class, I like to ride my bike, work on computers, browse interesting Internet sites, and follow most sports.
